Android Programming User Group – Jan 21 ‘10

Android programming is not easy. The learning curve is long and abrupt. This user’s group aims to allow each and everyone to learn to program this wonderful gadget. The group meets once every month.

During the meetup, talks and presentations are given on various subjects, and also feature show & tell portions where people can demo their applications to their peers and to the group.

Developers prefer iPhone over Android

Wireless Industry News reports: Skyhook Wireless ran a survey among mobile apps developers and its study reveals that some developers are pulling away from Android in favor of the iPhone platform.

The survey also suggests a general dissatisfaction and overall exasperation with the Android platform among the mobile developer community.

Low download volumes, coupled with poor marketplace design and the lack of an effective consumer billing system were among some of the many complaints. (Source)

iPhone Arrives in South Korea

Mobile Tech Today reports: The Korea Communications Commission paved the way for the iPhone’s introduction by granting a license to Apple to offer so-called location-based services, which include functions such as maps and direction finders that are available on the iPhone. South Korean law requires companies that provide such applications to obtain permission. (Source)

StartupDrinks – 25 Nov ‘09

The event gathers Montreal entrepreneurs, developers and any Montrealer interested in startups. It’s been running for more than a year, and gathers every last wednesday of the month from 40 to 70 entrepreneurs. It’s a great (free) way to mingle and get to know what others are working on.
